News about CLICK! and André Kertész

Eastman Opera Theatre Presents: Click!

October 30th and November 1st

Composer Steve Bramson and librettist Gayle Hudson have teamed up to tell the story of Hungarian photographer André Kertész. CLICK! is a new opera based on the life and legacy of Kertész and his wife, Elizabeth, and it will make its world premiere at the Eastman School of Music this fall. Set across the cities they called home—Budapest, Paris, and New York—this story explores emigration, artistic identity, and love’s enduring force through the shifting political and socioeconomic tides of the twentieth century. With a lyrical score suggesting impressionism, minimalism, and a hint of Hungarian folk music, the opera features a cast of three singers and one spoken role. CLICK! is made possible in part by the generous support of the Tulipán Foundation through its Art & Culture Award.

This production coincides with a related exhibition at the George Eastman Museum: American Born, Hungary: Kertész, Capa, and the Hungarian American Photographic Legacy.

CLICK! Receives the Art & Culture Award from the Tulipán Foundation

The Tulipán Art & Culture Award supports individual artists that are committed to enriching the Hungarian American cultural landscape.
