A NOTE ABOUT THE SCORE

CLICK! follows a less conventional structure in the telling of André’s story. Rather than a collection of scenes contained within clearly drawn acts, the music unfolds through a series of vignettes; each flowing one from the other. Thematic motifs appear and then reiterate at key moments throughout, linking the ideas and characters as the story moves forward.

Unique to the opera is how the character of Elizabeth, André’s wife, functions within the score; she is both wife and narrator. When acting as narrator, she speaks; when interacting with André, she sings. Elizabeth Kertész was a pianist. As such, in the opera, her narrations are always accompanied by solo piano-the signature sound for her character.
